What’s a good multi-effects guitar pedal?

Right now I have an older Zoom multi-effects pedal and I like the effects but it is very unreliable. I’m looking for a multi-effects pedal around $100-$200 that has a large variety of good quality effects, and would be reliable enough to gig with.

It would need to have plenty of distortion settings for 80′s rock/metal. I was thinking about a Digitech pedal, but I’ve never tried one out.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I was going to suggest any of the Boss GT-x pedals. I’ve actually purchased a GT-3 for around $100. The clean sounds are wonderful, but like almost every other multfix unit I’ve ever heard, I’m not too hot on the distortion. It’s not too bad, though, with some EQ it’s salvageable. The Soldano Lead Preamp setting is very nice, as is the Metal 5150. Again, with the right EQ they work very well. What I like best is that it has an external loop for distortion, in case you want to supply your own distortion pedal… I’m still experimenting with how to order the effects, but my Metal Zone sounds pretty good so far.

When I’ve used the GT-3 going into a power amp I’ve tended to use the overdrive pedals vs the distortion or metal pedal settings, EQ’d out some of the higher mids (3-6 khz and thereabouts), and used that to drive the amp model. When I used it in my last band I think I used one of the Marshall models the most, but whatever.

I don’t tend to favor Digitech, in my past experience they are more “toyish” or “novelty” vs realistic and usable. Good for extreme music, I think, but not truly versatile. Again, my experience.

a question for guitarists?

witch is better?
the Zoom 505 II or the Zoom G2 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal?

neither. zoom sound like a fart. it sounds wanky, but seriously, put in the extra money for Boss. You’re guaranteed a good sound, good range and indestructible. they hold their value too dont go boutique either.
