The parts you’ve highlighted in the 2nd picture control the friction and the spring tension in the pedal. Can’t get to the 1st picture for some reason.

What’s a good, relatively cheap stompbox/ pedal to get a shoegaze sound?
I don’t have that much cash at the moment, but I’d like a pedal to mess around with. Any suggestions?

However, you should be doing a delay –> reverb –> reverb –> delay in your signal chain. This is the typical shoegaze setup. Boss makes a decent Delay pedal for cheap like the DD3, but for reverb you have to get a Dr. Scientist RRR. If you’ve got the money, get: guitar –> Boss Overdrive –> Boss RV3 (3s) –> RRR –> RV-7 Hardwire (5s) –> Boss DD6 –> Amplifier –> other effects like slapback echo
It seems you don’t have the cash, so just get a Boss RV3, which does reverb and delay.
