New Behringer Effect Pedals
i want to get a new guitar amp (upgrade)?
i want to upgrade from my little piece of crap amp that i got with my first electric guitar. I am looking for an amp that has at least 2 channels, but i prefer and amp where i can dial in my settings, and save it on a channel (amps with that option usually have more channels). Built in effects are a big plus to me, because i don’t have the extra money to get a whole bunch of effect pedals.
I was looking at amps like the Line 6 Spider III 75 Watt and the Behringer Vampire LX112. I was leaning towards line 6, but i need some other opinions, because i know there are a bunch of people out there who are a little more knowledgeable about amps. I am in the price range of anything up to $300
Of the two I would go with Line 6. I’ve played both, and even though I really don’t like Line 6 and think they’re an abomination I would still pick them over the Behringer.
Most amps in that price range have two channels… and settings are clearly labeled on the front. The Line 6 and their ilk have a lot of ease of use built into them, all you have to do is press a button and a whole different preset is called up, but the Line 6 gear really doesn’t sound as good as a lot of other amps out there. Unfortunately, in your price range you may not be able to afford many of them, but I would definitely try playing some other amps before you got too far into the idea of playing the Line 6.
If you can find an Epiphone Valve Jr, put a Metal Zone pedal in front of it and see how it sounds when you turn it up. Now compare that to the Line 6. There’s nothing that really compares to that tube sweetness, even when warming up a distortion pedal. Compare the cleans… there is no comparison, right? That’s the beauty (and cost) of tubes right there.
Try playing a few different models of amp, no matter what direction you go. I’ve seen some Crate tube amps that look very attractive, but I don’t remember if they’re in your price range or not. I’m pretty sure they’d smoke the Line 6, though.
Here’s the thing… the Spider III has tubes in it. Yes, absolutely. But the way that they’re used is so neutral and so insubstantial that it really turns them into a gimmick rather than a true element in the signal chain. The tube power amp is good, because it makes the amp sound a lot louder than the Spider II, but the preamp tubes are a joke. All the tone comes from a DSP chip, which sounds incredibly similar to the DSP chip from the Spider II. It really disappointed me!
Try comparing it to a Marshall, really any Marshall will do. Spend some time playing with them, see if you can hear the difference. That’s the direction I’ve gone, apart from dinking around with my Mesa and this cute little Epi Valve Jr.
Good luck!

very easy and retarded questions about multi-effects pedals?
so im new to guitars and hopefully getting one for christmas and i want to know some things about multi effect pedals. 1st- do you absolutely need an amp to plug it in to(does it produce sound by itself)?
and 2nd- can they tune your guitar?
im thinking about getting a behringer x v-amp
First and foremost, please ignore the idiotic spammer “Jose” here. His cut-and-paste “answer” is pure ignorance and waste of time in a nutshell…
As for your question – you don’t need an amp om most multi effects pedals. Don’t know about the Behringer here in particular, but it would surprise me if this was an exception.
Most of these units (if not all) have built in preamps, speaker emulations and what not. As long as there is a headphone out, you can play your guitar and listen on headphones. Also, you can hook many of them up to computers and play that way.
And yes, a tuner is one of the things which is built in by standard on all the of units I’ve seen and played over the years.
The Behringer is OK sound wise, but this brand does not exactly build things to last, if you catch my drift… Boss and Vox is far better in that department
