italian folk music musicians
Hallo, I’m a musician and a teacher from Italy. Is it difficult to find a Job In Australia?

I’m an Italian musician, a singer. and I am specialized in ancient music (Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque) and in Italian folk music. Is there any possibility to work in Australia? Are there any italian-australian cultural associations interested in collaborations and cultural exchanges? Thank you

You are a music teacher, yeah?
I’m not sure how big the job market is for music teachers but if you have the credentials you should have a good shot at getting the job.
There are also various small music stores that offer tuition in voice, guitar, piano and drums, and they have teachers for each one. I used to go to vocal tuition when I was in school.
I’m not sure about cultural organisations but there are many Italians in Australia, especially in and around the big cities. No doubt there will be social gatherings organised by and for them.

I’m sorry I can’t be any more informative.
Good Luck with everything :)

xox, V.

Federico Fellini entered the pantheon of 20th-Century artists for his path-breaking films like, “La dolce vita” (1960) and “Otto e mezzo” (1963). However, it was with “Amarcord” (1973), that Fellini achieved universal fame. That celebration of youth and memory transcends all barriers of ethnic origin and national belonging by simply appealing to human commonalities. Similarly, Nino Rota’s music, a…

Good audition pieces for an undergrad college audition?

Hey fellow vocalists and musicians. (:

I am a senior in high school hoping to become a music major and I need a bit of direction in deciding which pieces I should perform when I audition for a spot in the program…

As you may know, many of the programs require about three or four art or folk songs ranging from German, Italian, French or English. I am a high soprano, but I don’t have the largest experience in the world when it comes to deciding what pieces to use…so if anyone has any ideas, that would be lovely. (: I don’t want to walk in there singing Caro Mio Bien or Ave Maria, considering these are songs everyone sings and I doubt they want to hear the same old redundant songs…

Thanks!
Apparently my inquiry came across as me not having a vocal teacher; I do, as a matter of fact, but I also would like suggestions for pieces as my vocal lessons aren’t always weekly; I have a chaotic schedule. (:

For English, why not some of the Child ballads? I guarantee you nobody is walking in there singing those. Something from a Purcell opera might also be a good choice. You can try Britten if you want something more modern.

French . . . Faure, Debussy, or you could do something off the wall from a Lully opera! You could even do something from my specialty, a French Baroque drinking song :)

German you can try Brahms, Mahler, Wolf, Schumann, Schubert, or something from a Bach oratorio. My audition piece is Mahler’s “Lob des Hohen Verstands”. It has an interval of a minor sixteenth twice in a row in the third strophe. I almost never get that far :)

Italian – something from a Handel opera, for vocal fireworks. Pick something and ornament the heck out of it with your teacher; if you get something with a descending minor triad you can fill in the descending scale and really play up that augmented second that will have everyone catch their breath (and make sure you really augment it).
