what exactly do effect pedals do for a guitar and how do they work?
They make it sound different. They “shape” the tonal response of a guitar. Analog pedals sound better than digital pedals.
When you hear a guitar solo, it usually is accompanied by an effect pedal or two. …such as Distortion (rock) and Reverb (big empty room sound)
How they work? The main thing this wikipedia page I posted here shows is that when the effect pedal is not turned on, the guitar goes straight through it without any modification to the sound. When the player “stomps” it, it creates the effect it supposed to.
If you want one for gigging BTW, get the Boss ME-50. I bought two.
