What is the name of the pedal or effect that Tim Reynolds uses that makes its sound like a violin?
On the Dave and Tim concerts, Tim uses a pedal that makes the guitar sound like a violin. What is the name of that effect/pedal
You can also use a device called an ebow which makes your guitar sound like a violin or a saxophone or something else that I can never remember. They’re pretty cool and on Guitar Center’s website.

Which guitar effect pedal will give me weirder sounds?
I’m trying to decide between a boss bf-2 flanger or the EHX Small Stone. Im into playing a lot of Sonic Youth-style noise experimentations but at the same time I want something that can give me more of mellower sound. So basically, what I’m looking for is noisy weird sounds and subtle warbles. Which one would better suit my style?
They both produce essentially the same sound. The small stone is a phase shifter which is the analog equivalent of a flanger. The Flanger works by taking the original signal, splitting it into 2, then slightly delaying one side of the signal with a digital delay and modulating that signal against the original signal. Chorus works the same way but with a slightly longer delay time (flanger-5-10ms, chorus 15- 30ms)
The phaser works in a similar way but using an analog circuit with a sine wave applied.
The flanger has a somewhat more metallic sound. The phaser is somewhat of a more subtle sound. I would suggest trying both to see which one fits your style more but from your description I think you would like the phase shifter better
