guitar effects parts
what guitar part has the greatest effect on the sound (tone?)?

Okay years ago i bought myself a cheap squire strat for my first guitar – After getting a new guitar i became reckless with it and stopped being careful until i stored it somewhere damp without protection. it acquired many chips cracks and the colour has faded and somehow its gone a bit rusty.
Long Story short it now looks great. it has that punk / relic sorta feel. It however still sounds shit.

I’m wondering what parts i would need to change to get that real fender sound and which single part would have the biggest impact. If you could recommend a replacement that would be wonderful.

i’m hoping its something which wont have a huge impact on the look, otherwise gonna have to look to buy a old part.
Basically im asking what should i buy to make a squire sound like a fender strat.

1.) Neck
2.) Pickups

What does the sound quality of an electric guitar setup depend on, parts of the guitar put aside?

I was wondering, which is better, to buy a cheap solid state amp that has good wattage (loud) but doesn’t have any effects, or even overdrive for that matter, such as a stranger cube 80. with a very good processor, like a zoom g2.nU that I’ve picked out, or a good amp such as a roland cube 20x and I’ll have to settle for a cheap processor. So which would be better for practising, and would have better sound quality and well better. What do you suggest?

Tone is a very subjective thing. There really is no single most important factor. A good guitarist can get good sound from inferior equipment. I have heard great players using mediocre equipment and sounding amazing. I have heard average players with top of the line equipment that sound horrible! The most important equipment is your fingers and your ears.
Start with the basics; A good guitar and a good amp. There are some very good solid state amps on the market that have built in effects and great tone. Some have a tube preamp and/or tube modeling software that allow you to simulate some great tube amps very effectively. Don’t worry so much about a processor at the moment. Concentrate on developing your ear and your technique.
