guitar effects archive
what amp settings should i use to sound like ac/dc?

im a beginning guitarist having just made the transition from playing bass. my available effects are drive, gain, and reverb, along with the usual bass, mid, and treble adjustments. no chorus effects and my guitar has 3 single coil pickups if that helps. also, is there a site or an archive or something thatll say what amp settings you should have for certain songs or bands like metallica, megadeth, aerosmith, buckethead, etc?
dan: if i could afford a guitar with humbucker pickups id get one but im in college right now and i think i should at least get as good as i am at bass before investing in a guitar thats is as high quality as my bass
jwenting: no sh*t i cant sound EXACTLY the same as any band are you that anal you cant imply the adjective SIMILAR from use of the word LIKE? get bent idiot

You should get a new guitar first. If you take notice to all of the guitarists in the bands you just mentioned all play a guitar with at least on humbucker, if not two. After that it’s all in the amp you get…don’t waste money on buying effects and those pedalboards. But for metallica I would say turn the gain up to 8, turn your low setting up all the way up, turn your mid setting to about 6 or 7 then with your high setting turn it up to 7

Feel free to listen and critique – your opinion is as valid as anyone else’s – if not moreso.

Julian Koster is a part of the Elephant 6 collective – having been a multi-instrumentalist on Neutral Milk Hotel, Chocolate U.S.A., and a few other projects, but the Music Tapes is entirely his brain child. Recording using antique instruments (playing bouncing balls, acoustic guitars, and playing the saw to beautiful effect), as well as recording-equipment (a wax cylinder was used on the first album – not sure about on the new one). Koster seeks a certain lo-fi, old-fashioned aesthetic and thrives there, writing ancient pop songs in the new millenium.

Song 90 in a series.

Beautiful. Like The Clangers singing Aqualung.
Amiina was incredible.
