How do I get Mudvayne’s bass tone and growl?
I have plenty of effects and ampage, but it’s not in effects. A lot comes from the hands, but the snorting, growling bass in the earlier stuff is just freakin sweet. Heard he re-amps through a guitar rig, but he has the tone live as well.
none (and i mean none) of it comes from effects, ryan doesn’t use any effects.
he has a warwick thumb, which in itself is a massive part to his sound, those bass’s sound nothing like any other bass out there, i think he uses ampeg SVT cab’s (looking from music video’s)

AC Noise with my guitar. Will humbuckers help?
I have been playing guitar for a couple years now, but never got into it enough to put a lot of money into my equipment until now. I use Native Instruments’ Guitar Rig 3 for my effects, and an Aria Strat-style guitar with single-coil pickups. I LOVE my guitar, but it produces a LOT of AC noise. If I purchase a stacked bridge humbucker, will it eliminate the noise? Or am I looking at another problem here?
Thanks, Mike. That is what I thought, but I didn’t want to spend $75 on them if it was going to have a minimal effect.
Yes the single coil pickups are known for their hum, thus the invention of the humbucker pickup. They cancel out he noise by having two coils in each pickup. But the sound is quite different, single coils have a twangier sound whereas the humbucker has more of deeper sound.
