folk music new england
What is the base of English folk music?

Is it Celtic-based, seeing as England is bordered by Celtic populations? This would fit in with the newer genetic research that shows that the Anglo-Saxons merely assimilated the larger, indigenous population rather than outright replacing it as is traditionally believed. Or, does English folk music have a Germanic/Scandinavian base, in accordance with the origin of the Anglo-Saxons? I’m sure the Vikings that left their mark on England must have had some influence on the music, too, right? Perhaps English folk music is some blend of styles, or is it something completely different?

All of the above. Folk music has evolved with the culture. England has been one country for nearly 1100 years now, so the dominant influence is necessarily Englishness – and the local influence of lifestyles in different regions – the sea in Devon, the mines in Yorkshire, etc..

I’d like to know what traditionalist country music appreciators think of this artist?

I quite erroneously stumbled onto Justin Trevino this morning when I heard him sing on Country’s Family Reunion this morning. Now most of you fine folks from Texas probably already know about him, but us folks up here in New England (and elsewhere around the country) have never had the pleasure of hearing this nice young gentleman). Well, I’m hoping that by this “question”, it puts him more in the spotlight. Personally I LOVED him, and the song, and would love to hear this on my local “country” radio station.

So, if you’d all take a listen…

Is my assessment of this fine young singer correct?

Thanks for reading, and happy listening.

I really enjoyed the song and the singer. Nice old fashioned honky-tonk music.

Will have to check out more of his songs.

Thanks for the heads up on him.
