folk music gigs uk
New to songwriting. Royalty and other payments help please!?

We have started to perform some of our own compositions (songs) at local folk gigs. We have been very pleasantly surprised at the reception they are getting and are thinking of releasing a CD. We have the facilities to do this ourselves but a music publishing company (a well respected folk label) is also showing interest. We have looked at all the stuff from the PRS etc and are now thoroughly confused about the best way to protect our interests and make sure that we earn the money we should if we go down either route. WE already know how to copyright our work, but any help and advice on the above would be appreciated. We live in the UK

music gigs in New york?

hi there i like to go to gigs in the uk. i live in liverpool but am going to be in new york between 5th and 14th september. i was wondering if anyone can recommend a place to go to see music.

i like sort of guitar music – be it rock/pop-folk bands like paulo nutini, the coral, rilo kiley.

also im only 20 years old will this prevent me from going to certain gigs.

also will recommend personal ideas as to people/bands to see.

check out magazine “time-out New York” it lists all the venues. Lots of fringey or standard clubs also lo-fi entertainment has cool bands it books all over NYC. so many clubs like the knitting factory, BB Kings, S.O.B., you have to be 21 to drink. lots of lo-fi stuff for 18 yr olds though.
