Build Stompbox
When building a home-made guitar stompbox, how big of a deal is it to use a different diode than listed?
I’m building a distortion pedal from a schematic I found online, and the only part that is not sold on the website I use is a “1N4002″ Diode. I don’t want to pay to get that part from somewhere else because that would be a huge waste paying to get one part shipped. How big of a difference would it make if I just used one of the other diodes that they supply in its place?
It would make a HUGE difference. The specifics of those parts are what make certain pedals classics while other ones suck. Just look at the Ibanez Tube Screamer. Original TS808′s go for more than brand new ones do, that’s because there was something magic about those original parts that just made them awesome.
