Zoom G1 Guitar Pedal+Steve Vai Tender Surrender?
I need someones help in developing a patch for me that emulates Steve Vai’s Accoustic part AND electric part (excluding wha-wha) for the Zoom G1 Guitar pedal.
If you have made a perfect/acceptable replica please post the settings.

Actually it’s not very hard to mimic Vai’s sound with the Zoom, it’s not about the price it’s about the quality with “30+ years” of experience you of all people should know that. However your post was very helpful in giving me and idea of what to go for. And to back up my statement, go to Youtube type in Tender Surrender Zoom G1… Case rested…
this will be difficult to do considering that the zoom pedal is a basic $80 dollar multi effects pedal and Steve uses the top of the line eventide effects units in massive racks with tons of preamps and other cool stuff. You will NOT get an exact replica and you will be hard pressed to get something close to it. I know because I have a G1X and while I think it is a cool pedal I know its limitations and emulating Vai’s tone is definitely not in it’s scope. Also, a major part of Steve’s sound comes from his fingers and his tremendous playing technique.
This being said there are some things you can do to help mimic his sound. Don’t use to much distortion and use a bit of compression. Use a quick slap of delay combined with a longer delay. Set the quick delay very short with no regeneratrion to create an ambient sound. Set the longer delay to at least 500ms with a little bit of regeneration but keep the level low on it. Use a nice slow chorus in stereo if possible. Create a second identical patch with a harmonizer set to a 5th for some cool Vai like sounds. His Clean tones also utilize a bit of compression and some digital delay and occasionally some chorus also.
Take your time and experiment with different types of distortions and amp simulators as well as noise gating.
Like I said, you won’t get exact but you might get close enough for the average ear.
