Guitar Effects Terminology
Guitar question………………………..?
I just discovered the art of holding onto the body of the guitar and pushing the neck away to create a whammy-like effect(I don’t know the right terminology). On my guitar, which is 1 solid piece including the neck, I see a hairline crack coming from the 19th fret at the bottom of the neck, and protrudes from the down the side of the neck.
Should I be worried? It’s only about 3 cm long.
Phew, its not really an art, and is not recommended. Bending the neck will create a vibrato type effect (forwards lowers the pitch and backwards will raise the pitch until it buzzes out). But, adding the tension to the neck is never a good idea, especially when you are bending the wood like that.
Im not sure if your guitar is an electric or acoustic guitar, but you have either a neck thru model or a set neck style guitar. Most acoustics are set necks. The crack that you see is probably a stress crack. You do need to get your guitar to a tech, however, it may be nothing to worry about. The first thing that goes in guitars as they get older and used is the lacquer finish. If there is a crack in the lacquer only, well… thats normal and can be left alone. However, if the crack is deeper and goes into the wood, it will need to be addressed. With a crack that small, I would guess it is probably nothing, but its better to be safe than sorry.
In any event, as the other answerers have said, try not to bend your neck back and forth.
Bass guitar effect pedal?
Bass guitar effects pedal?
I am looking for something (presumably an effects pedal) to make my bass sound distorted, fuzzy, buzzy like type thing (terminology!?!?).
Basically like in “The Raconteurs – Salute Your Solution” – about 25 seconds in.
Please see this link to see what I’m trying to get at:
