digitech effects pedals tones
how can i get Boston’s first album guitar tone?

I have a line 6 spider III, a digitech rp90 pedal, and a boss dynadrive. My guitar is an epiphone les paul special II (in white if that matters jk) If possible specify like EQ tweaks, effects, and distortion levels and types.

Hello there,

Here is a suggested setting from the discussion board at the Line 6 Community

Boston settings
Gain – 5
Treble – 5
Mid – 10
Bass – 3
Reverb – 0

(the guy who posted those settings did not say which amp model he used. I would guess green Crunch would be right, but try the red Cruch also)

I think I gave you the link in your other question, but here it is again

good tube amp for around $500?

I play metal, my favorite bands are black label society, pantera, and bloodbath (little bit of a stretch from the other two huh?) anyway, I have about 500 dollars, I was looking for a tube combo amp or stack for around five hundred us dollars. I need one that fits my style and is at least 30 watts. and at most 120. I have a schecter hellraiser c-1 fr with emg 81/89, a digitech rp150 multi effects pedal, a dunlop crybaby kirk hammet wah, and what seems to be an older model of a boss g-10 multi effects pedal. I want to be able to get very heavy tones much like black label society or the tones like from bloodbath’s song, eaten http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBfoMgllphs thanks!

It sounds like you already have some effects processors that you can use and I assume that you also have an amplifier of somekind now. All you really need an amplifier for is to raise the volume on the sound coming out of your effects processor. Your Digitech RP150 and BOSS GT-10 should be able to deliver the sound you are looking for. So, you don’t really need the amp for effects. I suggest if there is any way you can afford it, that you purchase an ENGL E530 Tube Preamplifier ($600) and attach your effects pedals to the ENGL’s effects loop and then output the sound from the ENGL through the amp you already have for the time being until you can get a good power amp and maybe some JBL speaker cabinets. 80% of your sound is always going to come from the effects processors and the speakers. So you just need the amp for power and volume. I have a BOSS GT-10 and an ENGL E530 and I play through a QSC power amp driving JBL speaker cabinets. When we play any of the darker metals, everyone wants to know how we are getting that sound. The Combination of the GT-10 OD/DS and the ENGL Lead channel with the high gain switch on and the EQ heavy on the lows and highs and faded back on the mids produces a devastating dark distortion and overdrive that you just can’t find in any other amp and effects combination. Here is what the ENGL E530 sounds like … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cIhGFmdarE&feature=related – So, that is without the GT-10 OD/DS effects and I’m not sure how they EQed the ENGL. Right there you have a fairly dark metal tone with just the ENGL. You add in the GT-10 or Digitech or both and you can get an awesome dark metal tone that with the right chord progression can send shivers out into the audience. At least, that’s what they tell us. You’re going to love the sound you’ll get with the E530. Nothing else comes close.
