Guitar Effect On Pc
How can I connect my guitar to my computer?
I want to use my software on my computer to edit, record and add effects to my guitar tracks but I don’t know how to hook my guitar up to my PC? I have a Soundblaster Live! Series card but I dont see a jack for a guitar cable.
You have a couple of options. You could go for something like the M-Audio MobilePre USB, which is actually a preamplifier with a USB interface. Or, for a lot less money you could buy a Griffin Guitar Cable, which adapts the 1/4″ phono jack on the guitar to 1/8″ mini phono for your computer and matches the impedance for you so you can plug the thing right into the mic jack. This makes for a less instant solution, since the cable doesn’t have any effects built-in, but if you have effects pedals or postprocessing software you can add them in.

I just bought a guitar USB cable to plug my guitar into my PC… No sound? And what is the best software?
OK, I got a First Act (the only one that my store had) cable, and plugged in my guitar and plugged the other end to my USB Slot. I played a few riffs to test it out… and it didn’t play. So I went to YouTube and tried to get a how-to on cables like this, and there was no sound. So I unplugged it, and then the sound worked again!! It is not defective. What should I do? I have an amp with a headphone jack and a direct out/aux in jack, so should I use the amp and not just guitar? Or what?
Also, what are some good programs I can use besides Audacity to record and simulate effects and amps?
Are you just plugging the guitar into a USB slot? What’s supposed to happen? Is there software that converts it? I use an EWI and it may be the same process you need. You may need to convert the signal via MIDI cable and use a software package like they sell at Native Instruments to get sound and to be able to use several instruments and special guitar emulators. Some software and hardware is specifically for guitar.
